Blog Phase II

Here is a copy of my lesson
  1. Instructional Decisions/Teaching (InTask Standard # 9): Discuss the implementation process and describe
    • What went well and what didn't go well during the implementation of your lesson?
I thought my lesson ran smoothly. One thing that didn't go well was that my lesson wasn't as engaging as my past questions.
    • How well was the alignment to objectives and standards maintained?
The alignment was not as strong as I would have liked it to be in this lesson. I wish I would have focused more on finding the main ideas in the text with supporting details
    • Describe any modifications made during the implementation of the lesson
  1. Mechanics:
    • What technologies did I use (for the teacher and the learner)?
    • How were the technologies used (by whom and in what manner)?
    • My lesson was within the correct time frame
      • It was short because…
      • It was too long because…
      • The lesson was within the correct time frame because...
  2. Assessment of Learning (InTask Standard # 6): Refer to Assessing Student Learning
    • Include at least 2 digital artifacts that demonstrate what you or your students (peers) have created as a result of your lesson
    • Describe your students' level of success in achieving the standards and objectives for your lesson based on your assessment
    • Describe the level of success you had in teaching the lesson
      • How do your individual reflections support this?
      • How do the comments from your classmates support this?
  3. What did you learn from designing and teaching this lesson and how will you use this in the creation of future lessons/learning activities.
  • Include at least 2 digital artifacts that demonstrate what you or your students (peers) have created as a result of your lesson

  • Describe your students' level of success in achieving the standards and objectives for your lesson based on your assessment
I feel like it could have been more successful and more clear to the standards. Going back I realized that they weren't as strong together as I would have liked them to be.
  • Describe the level of success you had in teaching the lesson
    • How do your individual reflections support this?
Once again, I feel like the lesson would have been smoother if the lesson tied in better to the standards. I feel that there could have been better ways for students to express the main ideas of the text. I reason I liked storyboard was because it was creative, however if doesn't mean students completely understand the standard.
    • How do the comments from your classmates support this?
My peers comments due mention that it should have been more clear on how I wanted the main ideas presented. Overall, they said the lesson was good. I would just need to explain the standards better as well.

4. What did you learn from designing and teaching this lesson and how will you use this in the creation of future lessons/learning activities.

This is something  I would use for future classrooms. I would just perfect it to fit whatever standard I have ready for it. I would also walk though it with the students. I believe storyboard is an awesome way to have students predict and so on and so forth. They could visually practice other skills through the website.

Final Lesson Plan

o What do the students need to know prior to the lesson?
- Student do not need to have prior knowledge when beginning this lesson since it is the  beginning of a class chapter or novel. Students will discuss what they think the book is about prior to reading it and perhaps that would spark prior knowledge in the lesson.
o How will prior knowledge and experience be assessed?
- Prior knowledge will be assessed based on what they share when discussing what they think the book will be about.
o How will you use this information in the planning process?
- This information will help me when discussing main points in the chapter and using what they know to help make connections in the chapter.
o When will the lesson be taught in the course of the school year? Why?
- This lesson could be taught anywhere throughout the year.

Lesson Plan: III. Implementation Reflection: Designing Instructions:
o How do the instructional methods align with what you know about best practices (think about your methods classes)?
-This format is often used at the school I work at. I often see students engaged when discussing the chapter while reading through it and I believe this would be a good method to keep students engaged while reading.
o How are you engaging students in creative and higher order thinking?
- I am engaging by being animated with my voice when reading aloud and having students think about what will happen in the story based on asking questions from the context clues in the story.
Lesson Plan: IV. Assessment Reflection: Planning Assessment:
o How does the assessment demonstrate that the students have been successful in learning the content?
- The assessment will show students have been successful by demonstrating on their storyboard that we were able to give a main idea with supporting details in their story by doing it through animations. I will know students were successful when they are able to answer my questions when going over their storyboards.
o How does the assessment demonstrate that the individual student needs were met?
- It would depend on the need of the student. For example, my ELL students would be able to produce their work in Spanish and I would see that they were able to understand the concept of the story and demonstrating a main event with supporting details.

Lesson Plan: V. Materials & Resources Reflection:
o How does your lesson meet Standard 1: Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity?
- My lesson offers creativity by allowing students to animate the assignment and use their own mind to visualize what the main idea is.
o How does your lesson meet Standard 2: Provide Digital Age Learning Experiences and Assessment?
It gives students an opportunity to use technology.
o How does your lesson meet Standard 3: Model Digital Age Work & Learning?
It meets the standard by me modeling for students and then giving them an opportunity to try it on their own.
o How does your lesson meet all four elements of Standard 4: Promote and Model Digital Age Citizenship and Responsibility by:  advocating, modeling, and teaching safe, legal, and ethical use of digital

Hello! This is my blog phase II.

    • What went well and what didn't go well during the implementation of your lesson?
Overall, I thought our lesson went well. One thing that didn't go as planned was how the website we used required a username. Being that I borrowed the website from my coworker, I assumed it would go straight to the simulation. Luckily, it was an easy fix and we were able to finish our lesson.
    • How well was the alignment to objectives and standards maintained?
I thought the alignment in our objectives went well with our standard. I believe our lesson would have helped students be able to begin understanding the concept of ecosystem.
    • Describe any modifications made during the implementation of the lesson
A modification we made was helping students sign up for the Gizmo we used. Another adjustment we also made was asking more questions during our presentation.
  1. Mechanics:
    • What technologies did I use (for the teacher and the learner)?
The technologies I used for this lesson was PowerPoint to help explain the lesson and Explorelearning.com or "Gizmo's"
    • How were the technologies used (by whom and in what manner)?
PowerPoint was used as a tool to help explain the information we had for the students. Explorelearning.com was used for practice so students were able to play around with the information we taught them.
    • My lesson was within the correct time frame
      • The lesson was within the correct time frame because we were prepared and had all our information prepared and ready to present. Despite there being a delay with the website, we were still able to push through and finish the lesson on time.

I believed students achieved the objectives based on their answers for the assessments. Students achieved the goal I wanted for the lesson and it was to tell how everything especially plants and animals have a balance in our ecosystem.
    • Describe the level of success you had in teaching the lesson
      • How do your individual reflections support this?
I thought we did alright in our lesson. Reading the surveys I know we should have provided more pictures to help our visual learners and help the understanding of our students.
      • How do the comments from your classmates support this?
It supports this because they had mentioned how visuals would have helped improve the lesson. They also mention using another source to present besides PowerPoint so it's more engaging.
  1. What did you learn from designing and teaching this lesson and how will you use this in the creation of future lessons/learning activities.
I learned that I need to be fully aware of what websites I use and how they work. It would help avoid losing time during a lesson and help keep me on my toes. It was good practice for me learning how to move along with it when something goes right in our lesson.

Here is a link to our lesson!

Lesson Plan: I. Rationale & II. Overview Reflections: Assessing Prior Knowledge and Planning
Instructions:
o What do the students need to know prior to the lesson?
Students need to understand that everything has a balance and everything affects each other.
o How will prior knowledge and experience be assessed?
Prior knowledge will be assessed based on the feedback we receive from the students.
o How will you use this information in the planning process?
This information will be used in the planning process by determining where my students
are and seeing what needs to be covered.

o When will the lesson be taught in the course of the school year? Why
The lesson would be taught as soon as we get into the “Life Cycle” unit during our science time.

Lesson Plan: III. Implementation Reflection: Designing Instructions:
o How do the instructional methods align with what you know about best practices (think
about your methods classes)?
The instructional methods align by engaging the student to begin thinking and reflect on
what they know about ecosystems and their environment.
o How are you engaging students in creative and higher order thinking?
We are engaging students by having them think about the question we asked and then

having them share with the class about what they think. This is a way to help spark other
student’s knowledge as well.
Lesson Plan: IV. Assessment Reflection: Planning Assessment:
o How does the assessment demonstrate that the students have been successful in
learning the content?
The assessment determines whether the student has successfully mastered the lesson by
giving the students time to think about the questions being asked and writing them. Our assessment
is made up of basic information we need to them understand in order to understand the subject of
science better.
o How does the assessment demonstrate that the individual student needs were met?
The assessments accommodate to students needs by being simple and not overwhelming for
the first part. This lesson would be the beginning of the unit lesson, so we would expect them
to understand the basic questions on it.

Lesson Plan: V. Materials & Resources Reflection:
o How does your lesson meet Standard 1: Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and
Creativity?
The lesson meets the Standard 1 because we begin by questioning students on how they
impact their environment or a way someone can impact their environment.
o How does your lesson meet Standard 2: Provide Digital Age Learning Experiences and
Assessment?
Students are given an opportunity to engage with digital learning experiences by using a
simulator of a forest ecosystem.
o How does your lesson meet Standard 3: Model Digital Age Work & Learning?
We model digital age work through PowerPoint and an online simulator.
o How does your lesson meet all four elements of Standard 4: Promote and Model Digital
Age Citizenship and Responsibility by:

Our lesson promotes Model Digital Age Citizenship by providing a visual representation of
correct technology use. The teacher sets the example when using technology demonstrating
to the student how to go onto the simulator site and showing them how to use it.

Phase II

  1. Instructional Decisions/Teaching (InTask Standard # 9): Discuss the implementation process and describe
    • What went well and what didn't go well during the implementation of your lesson?
Overall, I thought our lesson went well. I felt like it ran smoothly for the most part. The one thing I would have liked to better would have been the launch. I felt like I had a harder time building the connection with the launch question we asked.
    • How well was the alignment to objectives and standards maintained?
I thought the objectives and standards were maintained throughout the lesson. All our information for the PowerPoint was gathered from different sources. Also, we were able to have our students type out their assessment so it was able to align with the technology standard we did.
    • Describe any modifications made during the implementation of the lesson
One of the modifications we did in our lesson was adding drawing of the altar part. Originally, we weren’t going to have students draw out their own version of an altar, however we found that it suited the lesson well, and it would be something fun for students to do.
  1. Mechanics:
    • What technologies did I use (for the teacher and the learner)?
The technologies I used for our lesson were PowerPoint, a video from YouTube, and Mentimeter to record student assessments.
    • How were the technologies used (by whom and in what manner)?
The PowerPoint was used to present the information of Dia de Muertos to our students. We then used the YouTube video to help seal in the information after we taught the lesson and had them do the altar. The last thing we had them do was go onto Mentimeter. We used the website to record and assess students on what the learned. We were also able to see if students were able to type as we were looking for in the standard.
    • My lesson was within the correct time frame
    • A close up of a piece of paper

Description generated with very high confidence
      • The lesson was within the correct time frame because my activities and presentation correlated within the given time.

Students were able to achieve the standards because the information was given from various articles and videos. Reading their assessment, we know the information they learned was from more than one source. We were also able to see them type their answers which tied into the technology standard as well.
    • Describe the level of success you had in teaching the lesson
      • How do your individual reflections support this?
A lot of the feedback I received was positive feedback. My classmates shared how they enjoyed the lesson, but wished they had more visuals.
      • How do the comments from your classmates support this?
The comments support this by giving feedback on the questions we have asked. Many said how they enjoyed the lesson. They also mentioned how we did well in the presentation and in giving the information.
  1. What did you learn from designing and teaching this lesson and how will you use this in the creation of future lessons/learning activities.
Something I learned was how I was limiting myself to technology. I feel like I could have integrated more into lesson. At my site where I work, we use a lot of apps and so I feel like if I were to have had the apple technology, then I might have been a bit more creative with it. I also understand that as a classroom teacher, I have to be willing to adapt to what’s given to the school.

Phase 1 of our lesson!

Here is Rationale and Overview

o What do the students need to know prior to the lesson?
Students need to know what a tradition is, what culture means, and holiday.
o How will prior knowledge and experience be assessed?
Prior knowledge will be assessed through the launch of the lesson.
o How will you use this information in the planning process?
This information will be used in the planning process by starting a class discussion on the
topic to begin prepping students.
o When will the lesson be taught in the course of the school year? Why?
The lesson will be taught in October because it aligns with Hispanic Heritage month festivities.

III. Implementation

o How do the instructional methods align with what you know about best practices (think
about your methods classes)?
The instructional methods align by engaging the student to begin thinking and reflect
on what they know about Dia de los Muertos.
o How are you engaging students in creative and higher order thinking?
We are engaging students by having them think about what they answered and

writing their ideas down on the whiteboard. Students are also encouraged to speak
with partners at their tables to help activate prior knowledge.

IV. Assessment Reflection

o How does the assessment demonstrate that the students have been successful in
learning the content?
The assessment determines whether the student has successfully mastered the lesson by
giving the student thinking time and giving them an opportunity to write down their thoughts
on the tradition.
o How does the assessment demonstrate that the individual student needs were met?

The assessments accommodate to students needs by allowing them to discuss what they
have just learned before they receive their assessment question. When the lesson is
over we will play a short video to seal the information in as well for my learned who have a
difficult time learning by just listening to a lecture.

V. Resources

o How does your lesson meet Standard 1: Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and
Creativity?
The lesson meets the Standard 1 because we begin by talking about a topic that inspires students
and that they are interested about.
o How does your lesson meet Standard 2: Provide Digital Age Learning Experiences and
Assessment?
Students are given an opportunity to engage with digital learning experiences through the Youtube
video and Mentimeter.
o How does your lesson meet Standard 3: Model Digital Age Work & Learning?
We model digital age work through our PowerPoint presentation and collaboration.
o How does your lesson meet all four elements of Standard 4: Promote and Model Digital
Age Citizenship and Responsibility by:

Our lesson promotes Model Digital Age Citizenship by providing a visual representation of correct
technology use. The teacher sets the example when using technology demonstrating to the student
how to log on and use the website. Another thing is to remind students to be respectful when other
students are posting their answers when commenting. Additionally, through technology, students
able to complete their assessment at the end of the lesson.
